Whose is the fije?(Biography)
She’s grandpa
Armando and grandma Rina’s fije...
some time ago, in the countryside of a small Abruzzo village, grandpa Armando and grandma Rina, after losing two little children, bring into the world a special pup to get through the great pain.
That’s how my beautiful mommy was born.
Her life rebels and hits hard in the head, the heart and the throat. It’s no coincidence.
Put to the test, she gets through it, leaping every obstacle with kindness, faith, strength and courage.
Death, more than once, wants to take her away with it to unknown worlds and with its black cloak tries to seize her, but I stretch her a thin yet strong rope that goes straight from my heart to hers.
She grabs it and fights without anger as if it were nothing.
She wants to hug me again and this wonderful life.
She, who lives with a blessed bitch of an illness, the hardest one to accept.
It’s the one nobody can see, but it’s there, and inside it makes too much noise, so much that it echoes outside too.
It plays hide-and-seek, it never gets caught and it never goes away. It holds your hand forever and keeps you company, and all that’s left is to live with it.
As we know, it chooses special people, the ones who never give up, and we won’t: we’ll fight arm in arm with it at any cost, even when it eats up all your strength and knocks you out in bed...
One day I’ll tell you about it better!

A pinch of mAMA Maria Pia
Hi, my mum is called beautiful mummy, mAMA Maria Pia, mAMA Pia, Aunt Piotta to my cousins, Aunt Pia to all my friends’ kids, or simply Maria Pia.
Her name already
speaks for itself.
She’s a one-of-a-kind little being ...
Beloved singers:
Eros Ramazzotti and Gianni Morandi.
Favorite gelato:
Hazelnut and stracciatella.
Favorite dish:
Red pizza.
Favorite channel: Rai 1.
She hardly ever misses an episode of the pre-dinner shows.
Unlike me, she’s a creature of habit and has her daily routine.
Changes make her anxious.
She’s slim, but a real sweet tooth.
Grandma almost has to padlock the fridge and hide sweets under the bed—me too.
She doesn’t like drinking water; she prefers Coca-Cola.
She doesn’t drink wine or coffee, but barley coffee for breakfast and herbal teas on every occasion.
She likes eating almost anything—sushi, kebab, tajine, and cuisines from everywhere.
She won’t eat salad, she hates it, but she adores cheese and wherever she sees candy she immediately asks for one. She’s got a tapeworm, she’s always thinking: what’s to eat?
By nature too kind and very caring. She always thinks of everyone and if she meets you, a huge palsy-like grin spreads across her face and then at home
she prays for you too. Before going to sleep she not only prays for everyone, she sings.
She says she’d like to be a nun but she didn’t get the calling, and then she wouldn’t have received the most precious gift in the world (me, she says). She’s funny and a bit quirky when, on birthdays, she wishes you 199 years, yes 199…
She loves the rosary, the sea, summer hats like an American in Paris, sunglasses, red lipstick, colorful clothes, her perfume, the association,
friends, family, and children.
She never goes out without a watch and lipstick.
Her regular appointments: Little House on the Prairie, the soap opera after lunch, Divine Mercy at 3 pm, Mass every day and the association every afternoon. For 20 years never absent except for health issues.
She loves going to the cinema, doing theatre, dancing, singing even in the car, and she is part of a special choir.
She loves knitting and crocheting, making pictures even in copper, doing crafts, cooking for lots of people. She has golden hands. Everything is better in company; if she’s alone, she’s not into it.
She had been an artist since she was young.
She made copper paintings, painted, crocheted and knitted, loved cooking and studying, and now she had started doing again everything she enjoyed back then.
She was shy, reserved and very polite, but also funny and good company—though a bit too stubborn. She only listens to me, but if she gets something into her head, no one can stop her.
Before she never spoke, now she talks nonstop—I have to stop her, it’s anxiety. That’s why she often goes to the bathroom even if she doesn’t really need to.
The illness had left her like a vegetable in bed; now, instead, she’s started living again.
She really loves going out—parties, eating out, karaoke—but then she has to go back home. She’s a real social butterfly; she’d like to go out every day and every evening. She loves travelling and with me she even tried doing it on leave in the converted camper van, and ever since she’s wanted to go out in it all the time.
The illness didn’t make her bitter; it made her even more special.
She’s a force of nature, she never gives up and
has a big heart—maybe one of the biggest.
She lifts everyone’s spirits and sees the positive in everything. My little scriccioletta is such a character.
Wherever she goes to eat, she always brings me back something to taste. When she sees me her eyes sparkle, and she loves me more than other moms do. Everyone says she’s from another planet. One of God’s prettiest little flowers.
Anyone who knows her notices it and falls in love. Even just a few hours are enough to see her extraordinary inner beauty.
And when she was young they say she was among the prettiest girls in town, and in fact no talk, the photos and the facts speak…
